I did all my favorite hometown things over the weekend, and it made my heart so happy. I had a great time participating in the First Friday Art Crawl in Dothan. If you haven’t heard about it, I highly recommend checking it out!
One of the things I love most about being from the south is the rich cultural expression that flows from here. In a world where creativity and innovation are more important than ever, I am so proud of the local artists and storytellers in our community. For me, supporting them has always been a heartfelt priority. Why, you may ask?
Aside from the fact that it’s cool to see how different people express their creativity, local artists create unique experiences and encourage diversity in our perspectives. Our lives are enriched and it helps us connect with one another. So, if you think “art” has never been “your thing,” allow me to share why I believe it’s more than you may think.
Our community’s fabric is what makes it vibrant and attractive…or not. When you attend events or purchase from local creators and businesses, you help build a sense of belonging and pride within the community. Not only does your money stay here, a thriving cultural scene attracts talent and tourists alike, which is great for the local economy.
So many artists and creators offer events, workshops, classes, or mentorship programs that help people find their creative voice. When we attend and invest in the people providing them, we are contributing to the continued growth and development of the next generation of creators and innovators.
Supporting local artists is not just about purchasing artwork, it’s about investing in the creative health of our community, our local economy, and the cultural heritage that makes us special.
So if you don’t mind taking advice from a girl with a happy heart, attend the events, purchase from local creators, and encourage art education! I believe that together, this is how we foster a thriving and vibrant community.
Let your heart sing. – Dixie
